The Mourning Moonlight

As the last full moon of November ascends into the night sky, before the winter solstice, it casts a mystical glow that illuminates the earth with a gentle, silvery light. Known as the Mourning Moon, this celestial orb invites a deep sense of reflection and contemplation. It symbolizes not only the inevitability of death and loss but also the beauty of goodbyes, urging us to release the burdens of the past year. This enchanting moonlight serves as a guide as we prepare for the long, dark days of winter, encouraging us to retreat within, both physically and spiritually. In this sacred time, we are called to make amends with what no longer serves us, creating space for renewal as we embrace the stillness ahead. The Mourning Moon whispers secrets of transition, reminding us that every ending is but a prelude to a new beginning and within the darkness, there is light.

How could a death doula benefit you?

Have you ever had a time in your life where you have faced hardships? In that time, did you wish there was someone or something that could help you ground yourself in the midst of chaos? That's where a death doula fits in.

A death doula, much like a birthing doula, holds a sacred space during one of life’s most profound transitions. With compassion and deep understanding, they help individuals and families navigate the often-intimidating journey toward death, easing anxiety through open dialogue about feelings, fears, and wishes. In this supportive environment, a death doula supports the wishes of the individual and their loved ones, ensuring that those wishes are honored even when they can no longer voice them. Celebrating the rich tapestry of life lived, they encourage making amends and cherishing each moment, fostering peace and acceptance. Ultimately, death doulas guide families and individuals towards being present, embracing the beauty of each fleeting day, and allowing for a serene passage, one that honors both life and the transition that follows.

You will never be able to replace nor get back the time you have left with your loved ones. Allow someone to help ease your troubles so you can be present in the moment.

What's the difference between a death doula and hospice

Hospice will provide services to those who meet specific requirements to be on hospice services. These are outlined in the FAQs page. Whereas death doulas do not have specific requirements to provide services.

Hospice has different roles that can provide different services such as medical, spiritual, and psychosocial. Unfortunately, when a hospice company's census increases, the amount of time each role can spend with you and your loved ones becomes limited. Registered nurse case managers in hospice are unable to provide full education and guidance due to limited time and are only able to meet medical needs due to time restraints.

When paired with death doulas, both become a wonderful team. Death doulas can pitch in where hospice falls short. They can sit for longer periods with you and your loved ones to provide the full support you need. Preparing you and your loved ones in many aspects during this transitional period.

The Foundation of The Mourning Moonlight

Mission

In This Together

Other death doulas are unable to provide full-on care. We understand what it's like being in the trenches and the tough work of being a caregiver. We take pride in being able to assist in medical needs and care needs fully.

Human Dignity

You are not "just a number" but a unique human being deserving of honor and dignity.

Empowerment

You set the guidelines for how you wish the rest of your time to go. We don't hold judgment; this is your life. We support you in your choices and respect your word.

Advocating for the Dying

Your word matters even when you aren't able to speak. Your words and decisions deserve to be respected and honored.

Time

Time is not replaceable. You deserve time. Time with loved ones, and time for support.

At our core, we are dedicated to providing compassionate end-of-life care, walking alongside you every step of the way. We understand that this journey can be one of the darkest and most vulnerable times in life, and we strive to serve as a guiding light, offering support and compassion when it matters most.

Vision

The Mourning Moonlight aims to transform societal perceptions of death by dismantling the stigmas that often accompany it. By fostering a compassionate approach to end-of-life care, we provide support and understanding at every stage of the journey, allowing individuals and families to confront their fears about death. We believe that through open dialogue and empathy, we can create a space where death is not shrouded in negativity but rather embraced as a natural part of life. Through educating and encouraging conversations that promote acceptance, healing, and dignity in the face of loss. Together, we can change how we view death and nurture a society where compassion and understanding reign, turning mourning into a celebration of life’s rich tapestry.
