The Mourning Moonlight

Inspired by the gentle glow of November's Mourning Moon, our mission is to provide heartfelt support during life's final transitions. Even if you aren't ill or near the final days, planning is crucial to avoid future conflicts and stress. We believe in honoring each individual's journey with empathy, dignity, and personalized care. The Mourning Moon whispers secrets of transition, reminding us that every ending is but a prelude to a new beginning and within the darkness, there is light.

Compassionate Support For Life's Transitions

Whether you’re navigating your own aging process, supporting a loved one, or simply planning for the future, The Mourning Moonlight is here to offer warmth, understanding, and personalized guidance.

The word “death” can feel heavy, even frightening, and it often carries a stigma that makes people hesitant to approach this kind of support. While some death doulas focus primarily on bedside presence during the final days, that is not the only role we serve.

Death doulas support people at many different stages of life and health:

  • Individuals in good health who want to begin estate planning and advance care planning.

  • Families or individuals navigating a chronic or terminal illness.

  • Loved ones in the immediate stages of active dying.

  • And even those facing grief and healing after a death.

Each doula’s practice looks a little different. Some specialize in legacy work, others in grief support, others in preplanning, and death support.

At The Mourning Moonlight, you’ll find a blend of nursing expertise and doula presence, meeting you wherever you are in the journey.

What's the difference between a death doula and hospice

While both hospice and death doulas provide support around end-of-life care, they serve different roles and can complement one another beautifully.

Hospice:

Hospice provides care to those who meet specific medical requirements set by insurance guidelines, usually when a person’s health has significantly declined. Hospice teams can offer medical care, pain management, and support through multiple disciplines such as nurses, chaplains, and social workers.

Death Doulas:

A death doula typically focuses on non-medical support through emotional, spiritual, and practical guidance for both the individual and their loved ones. Some doulas sit bedside, others help families plan ahead, and many offer grief support after a loss.

At The Mourning Moonlight, our services are uniquely enhanced by the expertise of a Registered Nurse. This means we can bridge the two worlds, offering the warmth and presence of a doula, while also being able to address physical care needs, provide medication management, and guide families through medical decisions with clarity and compassion.
